First things first BREATHE! Psychologists say that breathing is the best way to get over anxiety. One of the psychologists in her article mentioned this technique, “Try slowly inhaling to a count of 4, filling your belly first and then your chest, gently holding your breath to a count of 4, and slowly exhaling to a count of 4 and repeat several times.” So, why don’t you go ahead and try doing this and probably you will end up feeling much better.
Accept that you are nervous. Suppressing and ignoring your nervousness only leads to a worse situation. Its normal to feel nervous, you gotta deal with it! Get out there and get a solution to your worry.
When you are nervous, your brain automatically starts to think negative. What if I don’t get the job? What if I cannot perform well? What if I am not the best for this job? What if I cannot impress my recruiters? And the questions go on! Well what you need to realize is that the questions are a probability. It is something that might not even happen in the future. Decide whether the thought is helpful , if there is only one person that is going to be selected out of ten and you keep analyzing the odds , you will end up demotivating yourself. And the thought is definitely not a helpful one.
Imagine a nice scene in your mind, it soothes your anxiety when you think of scenery that please your mind. For example imagine you are surrounded by mountains and a beautiful blue sky with a wonderful breeze, you are with one of your loved ones and everything is just beautiful and perfect. You can think of anything that is perfect and pleasing and peaceful to your mind.
Another important factor that the studies suggest to get rid of nervousness is to talk positive to your own self. Motivate yourself, tell yourself that you can do it and its not the end of the world if you cannot make it. Pat yourself and appreciate what you are good at. Boost up your confidence by looking at all your positives and motivate your own self. The best thing in you is YOU!
Nervousness only leads to probable future events that may not even happen as mentioned earlier and hence it is important for you to think of what is actually happening. Bring yourself to reality. It will help you manage the situation better.
